Lyle/Pacelli is the fifth seed in the Class A, Section One, West Subsection girls basketball tournament and visits fourth-seeded Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton in the quarterfinals on Friday at 7 p.m.
The winner of this game moves on to Mayo Civic Center for the next round of the tournament. These same two schools met last year in a subsection play-in game and L/P ousted J-W-P from the tournament.
Goodhue, ranked No. 1 in the state, is the top seed in Section 1A West. Faribault Bethlehem Academy is second and Blooming Prairie is the third seed in Section 1A West. Spring Grove is the top seed in the Section 1A East tournament.
Lyle/Pacelli enters the tournament with a highly successful season regular season in the books and a 16-7 overall record. The L/P Athletics are led by senior center Nyabang Diang and freshman point-guard Anny Rysavy, who both average scoring in double figures.
With a win in the subsection opener, the L/P girls would advance to the semifinals. This game would almost certainly be against the top-ranked Wildcats. It's time to tip off the post-season for the girls basketball teams.

• Southland is the second seed in the Class AA, Section Two South girls basketball tournament, which means a home game in the opener. The Rebels would have the first two games on their home floor if they are victorious in the first round.
New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva is the top seed and opens at home against No. 8 Triton on Tuesday night. Southland plays No. 7 seed Maple River at home on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The next round of the Section 2AA South tournament is also at the high seed on Mar. 4. The sub-section finals and then section championship are at Minnesota State University in Mankato.
