MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Lynx re-signed WNBA finals MVP Sylvia Fowles on Tuesday and then dealt forward Devereaux Peters to Indiana for Natasha Howard.
The Lynx also re-signed guard Renee Montgomery.
Fowles, who was a free agent, was acquired by the Lynx from the Chicago Sky in a three-team trade during the All-Star break last summer. She averaged 15.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks over 18 regular-season games after the deal. In the five-game finals series against the Fever, she averaged 15.6 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.0 blocks to win the MVP award as the Lynx won their third title in five years.
Fowles is third on the league's career list with 99 double-doubles. The 30-year-old is a two-time WNBA defensive player of the year pick and a two-time All-WNBA first team selection.
The team's sign-and-trade deal with Indiana swapped two forwards. Peters, a restricted free agent, was the third overall selection in the 2012 draft out from Notre Dame. She has averaged 4.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 16.3 minutes per game over the last four years.

Howard was the fifth overall pick in the 2014 draft out of Florida State. She has averaged 5.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 14.4 minutes per game over the last two seasons.
Montgomery was originally drafted by the Lynx with the fourth overall pick in 2009. She returned to the team last summer in a trade with the Seattle Storm, averaging 5.7 points, 2.5 assists and 17.9 minutes per game.
