DULUTH — The Madison Mallards are the Northwoods League 2013 baseball champions.
Madison ended its championship series with the Duluth Huskies on Friday night, romping to a 12-3 win in Game 2 of their best-of-three series.
The Mallards jumped on the Huskies early, building a 6-1 second-inning lead. Their offense was too much, cranking out 22 hits. Their defense was also excellent, playing error-free ball.
Joe McCarthy (Virginia) did the most offensive damage. He had five hits in six at-bats. He also drove in four runs and scored four times. McCarthy homered and doubled.
Andrew Arenson was the winning pitcher, working the first five innings and allowing just one run.
