Rochester Lourdes and La Crescent had their usual tough, intense match Tuesday in girls soccer. It was the Eagles who prevailed 1-0.
"This was a great battle as La Crescent exposed a few of our weaknesses, but our solid defense was the key," Lourdes coach Sarah Groven said. "Senior sweeper Mia Magnotto continues to lead our defense and Alayna Johnson and Rebecca Handley were also strong this evening."
Lourdes' goal came from Emma Schmitz, assisted by Katie Hyberger. Erin Leary was strong in goal, with four saves.
"Goalkeeping has been a strength," Groven said. "Both Erin Leary and Alayna Johnson have been real tough for us in the net."
Lourdes is 3-0 overall.

Lakeville South blanks Century
LAKEVILLE — Lakeville South scored the game's only goal, in the second half, in a narrow 1-0 victory over Century in non-conference girls soccer on Tuesday.
Century coach Karen LaDue said Lakeville South "took advantage of a breakdown on defense" to score its goal.

"We got pulled apart and South was able to get in behind our defense for a good look at goal," LaDue said. "We had great moments and we had moments when we looked flat. The heat and humidity seemed to be more of an issue for us then South. You regroup and you move on."

The John Marshall girls soccer team played great in the second half, but the Rockets were unable to overcome a large first-half deficit and suffered a 3-1 non-conference loss to Farmington on Tuesday night.
JM trailed 2-0 after the opening half, but it played even with the Tigers in the second half.
"The first half we were very timid with no communication," JM coach Kevin Lowery said. "Without our keeper, Zoe Zanella, the score in the first half would have been 10-0. Zoe kept us in the game. the second half, the girls had a fantastic game."
Nadia Lowery scored JM's lone tally. Zanella finished with 13 saves.
