Mankato, Concord in Division II semifinal

MANKATO — Unbeaten and top-ranked Minnesota State, Mankato will host No. 10 Concord at 2 p.m. Saturday in a NCAA Division II tournament semifinal at Blakeslee Stadium.

MANKATO — Unbeaten and top-ranked Minnesota State, Mankato will host No. 10 Concord (W.Va.) at 2 p.m. Saturday in a NCAA Division II tournament semifinal at Blakeslee Stadium.

The game matches one of the best defenses in the nation against one of the best offenses. Mankato allowed only 12.8 points per game in the regular season and 19.0 points in the playoffs.

Concord averages 44.6 points.

Both teams are 13-0. The Mavericks are coming off a 44-17 win over Minnesota-Duluth last Saturday in a quarterfinal while Concord outlasted Bloomsburg 32-26.

Mankato and Concord have never played each other.

The winner plays for the national championship at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 against either West Georgia or Colorado State-Pueblo in Kansas City, a game which will be televised on ESPN2.

This is Mankato's second appearance in a tournament semifinal. Neither team has ever played for a national championship.
