Marathon class info meeting scheduled

An introductory meeting for the 37th marathon and half-marathon training class sponsored by the Rochester Athletic Club and Rochester Track club is scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at the RAC.

The classes run from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Tuesday through May 17.

The emphasis will be on first-time full or half marathoners or for those who have not run an event for some time and whose primary objective is to finish their event of choice, training up to 32-45 miles (marathon) or 20-33 (half marathon) per week.

Every session will address such topics as nutrition, fluid replacement, preventing and coping with injuries, running shoes, clothing, massage and stretching and mental preparation.

Long, group runs will be programmed into the course.


The fee is $50 and includes a clothing item, plaque, guest speakers and copies of handouts. Participants do not have to have membership at the Rochester Athletic Club or track club.

Track Club gives awards

The Rochester Track Club handed out its yearly awards at a banquet Saturday night at the Ramada Inn.

Amy Donohue-Anshus and Wally Arnold were winners of the  Outstanding Service Award, Jim Mason earned  the Dwight Pierson Award, Tom O'Leary was named the 2010 Runner of the Year and Lin Gentling is the President's Award winner.

Frozen Goose run is Saturday

The ninth annual Frozen Goose (10K or 5K run/walk) Race is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at the University Center Rochester Atrium.

Fee is $25 individual or $40 family. Registration starts at noon for the race sponsored by the Optimist Club of Rochester.


Proceds benefit the Mayo Clinic Childhood Cancer Research and Brighter Tomorrows and is a part of the Rochester Winterfest.

TC Marathon registration starts Wednesday

Registration for the 30th Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon starts on Wednesday. Fee for the Oct. 2 race is $100 plus online processing fee.
