Masberg of Riverland gets player of week

Cassie Masberg of the Riverland Lady Blue Devils volleyball team was nominated as the All-Around Player of the Week by the Minnesota College Athletic Conference.

The honors came for Masberg after a strong performance in the season opening 3-0 loss to Dakota County Technical College last Friday.

Masberg was the key player for the Blue Devils in the close loss to DCTC. Masberg averaged four kills per game and also excelled on defense with 18 digs on the night. The sophomore outside hitter for the Lady Devils is a graduate of Waterville-Elysian-Morristown High School.

In their opener last week, the Lady Devils played competitively but lost by scores of 25-20, 26-24, and 25-19 in the MCAC, South Division match.

"The girls are very talented and show there are great things to come for the team," Riverland coach Sara Heim said. "The strength was the ability of the girls to adjusting their offensive positions and style of defense on a moment's notice."
