Mayo second in prestigious event

MADISON, Wis. — Rochester Mayo landed second to perennial Minnesota girls tennis power Edina on Saturday in the prestigious Dominican Cup.

The event, which had eight teams and encompassed four states (Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, South Dakota), had Edina finish as champion with 92 points. Mayo scored 65.

Mounds View, Minnetonka and Sioux Falls O'Gorman (S.D.) were just behind, with 65, 63 and 62 points, respectively.

Mayo was led by Kate Rosenow, finishing second at No. 2 singles. The No. 2 doubles team of Delany Edwards and Meryl Nath, and the No. 3 doubles team of the varied combination of Laura Cattaneo, Sam Francis and Marion Renault were both second.

"It was some great early-season competition from some of the top teams in the Midwest," Mayo coach Dave Edwards said. "It was great to see the girls get to play in so many three-set matches against that type of competition."
