Mouthpiece: Gophers are going to go 0-for-3

One of the three hotly recruited Minnesotans announced his college basketball choice. De La Salle power forward Reid Travis opted for Stanford; can't blame him.

Early signing begins Wednesday and the decisions of Apple Valley point guard Tyus Jones and former Robbinsdale Cooper shooting guard Rashad Vaughn are expected soon. Jones has his pick of Duke, Kansas and others. He's probably a one-and-done college superstar who has never seriously considered the University of Minnesota.

The writing on the wall appeared this summer regarding Vaughn. He transferred to Findlay College Prep in Henderson, Nev. — just down the road from UNLV.

Richard Pitino tried hard but had only seven months to woo these guys. That's the blink of an eye in the college game these days.

Maybe a year from now the likes of DeLaSalle guard Jarvis Johnson, Grand Rapids forward Alex Illikainen and Hopkins wing Amir Coffey will be announcing they will become Gophers.
