The Minnesota Vikings are set to open training camp, and I'm pumped to watch what the new crop of rookies can do.
But, I'm also looking for Christian Ponder to finally become an NFL quarterback. Because, if it doesn't happen quickly, this team will not make the playoffs this season. If the coaching staff remains stubborn and sticks with a lame duck another full season, they'll all be looking for jobs.
The NFC took a giant leap forward this season. The Seahawks and 49ers are clear favorites, and there are several other quality teams like the Falcons and Packers, chomping at the bit. Most of them got better this offseason.
If Ponder doesn't also improve, this team is doomed. Adrian Peterson can do almost anything, and I'll never doubt him.
But it's fair for me to doubt Ponder. If I had the whistle, he would get four games to show me something. Then, I'd try to save my job and the season.
