Mouthpiece: What else is on? One take of First Take is enough

My local cable provider shuffled the morning lineup this week and that's relevant because I can no longer enjoy America's Funniest Videos with my first cup of coffee at 10 a.m. But with a little channel surfing I was still able to find people being ridiculous.

I checked in on ESPN's First Take, a sports talk show featuring two of the loudest and most irritating personalities on TV, Steven A. Smith and Skip Bayless. These two have an annoying tendency to just say whatever pops into their head, often without regard for reality or the truth. I'm sure they do it for shock value; there are times they can't possibly believe their own words.

On Thursday, Smith essentially charged malpractice against the doctor(s) who have been treating the ailing ankle of New York Yankees shortstop Derek JETER (for some reason he likes to SHOUT the star's last name). Then he matter-of-factly assured that Jeter will return next season and hit .280 to .300 — "provided he's HEALTHY". Good disclaimer.

A few minutes later, Bayless charged that Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz is somehow complicit in the dirty, fine-inducing play of his defensive linemanNdamukong Suh, saying Schwartz "encourages much of his behavior because it intimidates the opposition."

So it's back to channel surfing with my morning coffee. Maybe I'll give "UFO Hunters" a try. It couldn't be any more ridiculous than First Take.
