For the first time in many seasons, Carl Ellis won't be on the bench for the Lyle/Austin Pacelli volleyball team as Jamie Zielke takes over the program.
Ellis and former co-coach Norm Blaser guided the team to a number of successful seasons in the early years of the sports co-op between the two schools. Blaser retired a few years ago and then, Ellis continued on through the end of last season.
Zielke brings enthusiasm and a solid knowledge of the sport to the Lyle/Pacelli program. The new coach will benefit from the return of key players on the roster.
Audrey Ferris, Ashley Hinz, and Dani Felten, are all returning seniors for the L/P Athletics. Ferris and Hinz are middle hitters. Felten is the setter who makes the offense go.
Ann Rysavy, a freshman setter, and sophomore defensive specialist Paige Smith played on the varsity last season. Junior outside hitter Jennie Marx also saw action on the varsity last season.

The season opener is scheduled for tonight in Lyle against the Lanesboro Burros. The Athletics will also play the final four home matches of the season at the Pacelli Gym in Austin.
