No. 1 doubles team leads way for Packers

Bob Astrup and Jacob Brehmer  •  No. 1 doubles team  •  Austin boys tennis

• Astrup and Brehmer, both seniors for the Austin Packers, have been at the forefront of the team's domination in the doubles matches this season.

• Recorded their first win of the season on Apr. 13 against Blue Earth. Won the first set that day 6-2 and then didn't lose a point in a 6-0 win for the second set.

• Opened play in the Big Nine Conference two days later with an impressive straight set win at Owatonna. The win of 6-2, 6-2, by the No. 1 doubles duo helped the Packers to a team win in their conference opener.

• After another win in a meet at Mason City, Iowa, the Packers doubles aces were 3-1 in duals. They lost a conference match against Rochester Century, but rebounded with a straight-set win at Faribault in a match where they only lost one point.

• Continued their winning ways in the final meet of April versus Rochester John Marshall. Rolled to a convincing 6-1, 6-0, win as the Packers took the conference dual by one match in a 4-3 final.

• Tuned up for the Big Nine Conference Meet later this week with a win at No. 1 doubles on Monday against Decorah, Iowa. This was a tough three-set battle as Astrup and Brehmer have also shown the ability to win the close matches.
