The cold will linger in the region to start off the weekend. High pressure will slowly drift away as a south wind picks up in the area Saturday. As the cold air pushes eastward, the warmer temps arrive and look to last most of the following week to come.
Friday's temperatures will be quite brutal for a mid-March day. Highs will stay in the single digits for the Red River Valley and up into northern Minnesota.
The breeze won't help it feel any better on Friday. Strongest winds will be in the morning, but it will stay breezy with a northwest wind all afternoon and evening as well.
A few snow showers could clip extreme northern Minnesota later on Saturday into Saturday night, but most of the region will just have a breezy weekend and mainly looks to stay dry. Warmer temperatures arrive in the western Dakotas with a shot at some 50s. Temperatures will be warmer for the Red River Valley on Saturday - especially compared to Friday's brutal highs.
Wind is a sign of changes in our weather and Saturday will feature warmer temperatures compared to Friday. With that... more wind. Saturday will be windy with a south and southwest wind expected for the eastern Dakotas and across Minnesota. Stronger winds pick up in the western Dakotas helping boost those temperatures into the 50s.

Sunday looks to be a quieter day for the region. Temperatures may be a little below average with a breeze here and there, but I'm not seeing as much wind in the forecast compared to what we'll experience Friday and Saturday.
