For the past two days, an injured pelican had been wandering the streets of Austin before it was rescued and released on Monday, Dec. 7, according to the Austin Police Department.

The pelican appeared to have an injured wing as citizens attempted to herd it away from the road. Community Service Officer Nick Zago and a citizen then rescued the bird and released it in the more rural Cedar River area.

The pelican was mobile upon release.
