WATSON — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is hosting three public scoping meetings to garner input on how reservoirs in western Minnesota and eastern South Dakota are managed for recreation and environmental stewardship.

The meetings are as follows:

  • Lac qui Parle and Highway 75 Dam to be discussed from 7-9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at the Lac qui Parle Lake project office, 9055 First St. W., Watson;
  • Lake Traverse to be discussed from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Lake Traverse project office, 6338 County Road 10, Wheaton;

  • Lake Orwell to be discussed from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Lake Orwell project office, 14780 Orwell Rd., Fergus Falls.

The meetings will focus on land use and facilities at Lake Traverse, Lake Orwell, Lac qui Parle and Highway 75 Dam, where the Corps is seeking public input to help update the master plan that will guide the district’s comprehensive management and development of natural, recreational and cultural resources on Corps lands at the projects. The meetings will not address reservoir levels or water control operations.

Corps staff will be available during the meetings to discuss the projects and future plans. The meetings are informal, but there will be a short presentation at 7 p.m. to explain the projects and next steps in the planning process.

The current master plan is available on the St. Paul District website at https://www.mvp.usace.army.mil/Missions/Recreation/Western-MN-Reservoirs-MP.
