MINNEAPOLIS -- Owatonna earned another chance to win a state title with a 27-7 victory over St. Michael-Albertville Friday. This was the second consecutive and fifth overall appearance for Owatonna. The Huskies were beaten in last year’s title game by Totino-Grace of Fridley, which has moved into Class AAAAAA this year.
Owatonna will play the winner of the semifinal between Brainerd and Chaska on Saturday.
Senior running back Aaron Peterson scored twice for Owatonna on runs of 7 and 34 yards, the first TD in the second quarter and the latter in the third quarter. Senior quarterback Ian Langeberg initiated the Huskies’ scoring with a 30-yard pass to senior wide receiver Sam Fenske in the first quarter. Owatonna senior kicker Carter McCauley kicked field goals of 38 and 42 yards in the third quarter to round out the scoring for Owatonna.
The single scoring play for St. Michael-Albertville came on a 23-yard pass play from junior quarterback Jackson Greenwaldt to senior wide receiver Matt Kisch in the second quarter. The Knights were making their sixth appearance but first since 2008.
