Packers lose volleyball opener

FARMINGTON — The Austin Packers volleyball team lost its season opener against Farmington in three games on Tuesday night.

It was a competitive battle by the visiting Packers in the first two games of the match against the Farmington Tigers. The first game was the closest as the Packers took a 25-22 loss.

Farmington pulled away late again in the second game for a 25-20 win. The home team then finished off the match with a 25-11 win for the three-game sweep.

Statistically for the Packers in the non-conference match: Jenna Svoboda had 8 set assists; Babaye Oja, 4 ace blocks, kill; Haley Underwood, 5 kills; and Jocelyn Sheehan with a pair of ace serves.

Austin (0-1) plays its home opener on Thursday night against Hayfield at the Packer Gym.
