FARIBAULT — The Rochester Patriots opened their American Legion baseball season Monday by splitting a doubleheader with Faribault.
The Pats lost an error-filled first game 16-6 in five innings, then won the second 9-5.
"We struggled (in the first game) with errors, both physical and mental," coach Dutch Heiderscheit said. "It was not a sharp game for us."
In the second game, "Jack (Kall) picked us up with his pitching," Heiderscheit said. "It was still not a real good game but we haven't played for over a week and practice has been sporadic, with weather and kids being busy.
"Hopefully we can get in some much-needed practice."
