Patriots win one of three games

NORTH ST. PAUL — The Rochester Patriots won one of three games Saturday and Sunday in the Gopher Classic American Legion baseball tournament.

The Patriots started off with an easy 6-1 romp over Giant Valley (Minneapolis). Jack Kall pitched well, striking out four and walking just one in getting the win.

Sam Aakre, Jake Halverson, Sammy Broman, Jake Dravis and Zach Schwieters all had two hits.

"It was a very well played and clean game," Patriots coach Terry Heiderscheit said. "Jack pitched well and we had some timely hitting."

The Patriots followed that Saturday by losing 4-3 to North St. Paul.

They got an excellent pitching outing from Jake Halverson, who allowed just one earned run. But six Patriots errors were costly.

"If we clean that up we could have won the game," Heiderscheit said.

Broman and Kall had two hits each.

The Patriots allowed five second-inning runs in Sunday's 13-1 loss to Mitchell (S.D.).

Walks were the difference, as the Patriots issued 12 of them.
