ROCHESTER — Mayo limited John Marshall to just 14 points in the first half and went on to post a 46-37 victory in Big Nine Conference play.
"Both teams played great defense," Mayo coach Braden Markham said. "It was good to get the win on JM's home court. I really respect (JM coach Jim) Daly so it's always good to beat him."
The Spartans, who beat JM 58-56 back on Dec. 13, led the game 21-14 at the half.
Isaiah Hanson led Mayo with 18 points and he knocked down three 3-pointers. Alex Gyarmaty chipped in with 13 points.
Cham Obang led JM with 11 points.

Following a three-game losing streak, Mayo has now won five straight. The Spartans are 13-4 overall and 9-4 in the Big Nine.
The Rockets drop to 5-11, 4-8 in the Big Nine.

Lake City 61, Lourdes 40
ROCHESTER — Hunter Lorenson scored 25 points as Lake City, ranked No. 1 in the state in Class AA, toppled Lourdes 61-40 in Hiawatha Valley League play.
Lorenson made nine of 12 shots from the field and scored 19 points in the first half. He also had four steals, three assists, two blocks and two rebounds.
Ryan Heise finished with 14 points for the Tigers, who improve to 17-1 overall and 10-1 in the HVL. Heise, who had a pair of two-handed dunks in the second half, also had six blocks, four rebounds and three assists.
Lake City, coming off a 53-41 loss to Stewartville, led 33-23 at the half as it handed the Eagles their fifth straight loss.
Aidan Jahns led Lourds with 10 points. The Eagles drop to 8-11 overall and 3-7 in the HVL.
