Goodhue 53, Lourdes 52

GOODHUE — In an early showdown game, it was Goodhue coming away with a narrow and drama-filled 53-52 win over Lourdes in Hiawatha Valley League action.

Goodhue entered the contest ranked fourth in Class AA, Lourdes sixth.

It was a game of swings. Goodhue led by 13 points midway through the second half, then Lourdes led by four points with 2 minutes left before Goodhue came back once more and got the win. It was a Jada Scheele basket that finally won it for the Wildcats.

Scheele finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Tori Miller had 12 points and 13 rebounds, Elisabeth Gadient had 12 points and Kendyl Lodermeier had 10 rebounds.

Ella Hopkins paced Lourdes with 19 points, while Vivica Bretton had 17. Eighth-grader Aaliyah Williams had nine points.

Hannah Hanson exploded for 28 points, with a pair of 3-pointers. Backcourt mate Kaia Kirkeby had 17 points, Izabel Ruskell 14 and Ava Miller 12 to pace an otherwise balanced attack.

Mayo led 50-27 at halftime against 0-2 Albert Lea. The Spartans are now 2-1.
