Century/JM 8, West 1

MANKATO — Century/John Marshall outplayed and outscored Mankato West in a Big Nine Conference girls hockey game Tuesday at All Seasons Arena.

The Panthers improved to 4-1-0 in the Big Nine Conference — and remain in a tie for first place with Albert Lea — and 4-4-0 overall with an 8-1 win at Mankato West.

Century/JM led 2-1 after one period, then opened up a big lead with a three-goal second period.

Kailey Birkestrand and Caydence Hanson led Century/JM with a goal and two assists each. Megan Gamble scored twice for the Panthers, while Annika Torbenson, Nina Luke and Daelyn Williams had two assists each, and Fiona Barry had a goal and an assist.

Sophia Trabuco, Paige Groslie and Jessica Retterath had one goal each in the win.

Abigail Conners took care of the rest, stopping 15 shots, as the Panthers outshot the Scarlets (0-4-0 Big Nine, 0-5-1 overall) 41-16.

Century/JM is back in action at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Coulee Region Cyclones, in Onalaska, Wis.

Mayo 3, Fairmont 1

ROCHESTER — Andrea Augeson had one assist and scored twice, including the game-winning goal, as Rochester Mayo beat visiting Fairmont 3-1 in a non-conference girls hockey game Tuesday at Graham Arena.

Augeson scored a power-play goal 10:41 into the game to give Mayo a 2-0 lead, then she added an insurance goal in the third period, scoring an empty-net, short-handed goal with 45 seconds remaining to seal the victory for Mayo (2-5-0 overall).

Sophia Sather opened the scoring for the Spartans, recording her second varsity goal just 1:25 into the game.

Grace Kober was sharp in goal for the Spartans, stopping 31 of the 32 shots she faced.

Milania Black, Katie Cummings, Elle Roth and Cass Arendt all had one assist each.

Mayo, which has won two of its past three games, returns to Big Nine Conference play at 7:15 p.m. Thursday when it hosts Winona at Graham Arena I.
