MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins placed an 11th player on the disabled list on Tuesday when Trevor Larnach was diagnosed with pneumonia. They’re hoping they won’t make it 12 players after shortstop Carlos Correa was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis.
An MRI on Correa’s foot has revealed inflammation in his arch and irritation in the plantar fascia, the band of connective tissue at the bottom of the foot.
Correa was out of the lineup for Tuesday’s 4-3 loss to San Francisco and again for Wednesday’s series finale at Target Field.
Manager Rocco Baldelli said the team will let Correa, who signed a six-year, $200 million contract this offseason, have Thursday’s off day before determining whether the two-time all-star shortstop might need to be placed on the 10-day injured list.
“I think we get to Friday and some of our decisions might be made for us,” the manager said. The Twins begin a three-game set against Toronto on Friday.

Kyle Farmer, a veteran infielder acquired in a trade with Cincinnati last November, played short in Correa’s absence on Tuesday and Wednesday, and there is another potential replacement at Class AAA St. Paul.
Royce Lewis, the first overall pick in the 2017 amateur draft, is eligible to come off the 60-day injured list on Monday.
“We’ll see what he’s doing when the rehab assignment comes to an end and we have to make a decision, or whenever that time is when he’s physically and repetition-wise ready,” Baldelli said.
Lewis told the Pioneer Press on Tuesday he feels all the way back from ligament replacement surgery, his second, performed on his right knee last June. In five games with the Saints through Tuesday, Lewis was hitting .308 with three home runs and six RBIs while playing third and short.
But Lewis, who turns 24 on June 5, has played only seven games on his rehab assignment, and Baldelli said the Twins aren’t necessarily waiting on him. Lewis was injured while chasing a fly ball to the wall in center field, his first major-league game there, during his 12th major-league game.
“If Byron Buxton goes on the IL, the first day Byron Buxton is ready to come back, he’ll be back — and he’ll be hitting second or third or fourth. Correa, something similar,” Baldelli said. “But Royce, I can’t put Royce or any young player in that same type of conversation.
“He’s playing well right now, I think he’s swinging the bat well. He’s physically doing just as we would have hoped.”
