PHERSY:Yo Feldy, I read that "Points on the Purple" garbage you and Mr. Limbeck wrote earlier this week. It was good stuff ... for you. But now, Brett Favre is officially back. The circus is in town. I've made my dislike for Egoboy known from the second his name was mentioned before last season. And that won't change. I'm also not foolish enough to believe the Vikings are better off without him. So, let's get right down to it before we get into some rapid-fire madness: Feldy, will the Vikings get to the Super Bowl with Egoboy at the helm?
FELDY: The last three times I've said yes to the Vikes-to-the-Super-Bowl question, they've stomped on my heart right through my chest; didn't even take the time to pull it out. But I'm not smart enough to learn from that. This team has nine starters in their 30s. Their window closes after this season. Their sense of urgency is strong and they'll be focused come Sept. 9. So, I'll try this again: Yes, this is the year I actually get to watch the Vikings play in a Super Bowl. … Bigger concern right now: Sid's hip or Percy's head?
PHERSY: Sid Hartman? Well, I guess I assumed he'd already had both of his hips replaced so it wasn't really a problem. Jokes aside, we should be equally concerned with "injuries." I agree the Vikings are a Super Bowl team if they can stay healthy and avoid an injury to a key cog. Well, in my mind, Harvin and Sid Rice are both key cogs. Nobody made Favre look better last season than Rice did, and Harvin's versatility helped make the Vikings offense one of the most exciting in the NFL. This team can win without those guys, but I don't think they will. ... OK, shifting gears, how about those Twins?! How good is this team right now?
FELDY: I'm not sure what's been better, watching the Twins pull away from the White Sox or watching the Sox invent new ways to melt down. Apparently, Phersy, the hours you've spent in a dark room poking your Ozzie Guillen voodoo doll are paying off. If it wasn't for a bullpen as shaky as your writing, Phersy, I'd feel great about this team's chances to reach the World Series. Whaddya think, will the Twins be playing deep into October?
PHERSY:Nope. And I don't have a great explanation as to why. But I'm still concerned about the bullpen and I can't see the team continuing this hot hitting streak all the way through October. I will, however, pick this team to win a playoff series. But the World Series just seems out of reach. ... Feldy, your favorite college football team has been picked to finish last in the Big Ten by both The Sporting News and Sports Illustrated. Both publications have the Gophers going 2-10 this season and 1-7 in the Big Ten. What would be a good season for this club? And, how many wins will Tim Brewster need to save his job?

FELDY: Sadly, an overachieving season for the Gophs will be about four or five wins. Also sadly, I can't see this team reaching those numbers. I see that Brett Favre has inspired Trevor Mbakwe to return to the Gophers basketball team. Maybe Favre can inspire Tim Brewster to actually coach this season. … Phersy, at what point does Brewster actually let Marqueis Gray become the team's full-time QB?
PHERSY:Oh Feldy, don't get me going. You know I wanted Gray in there from Day 1 last year, and I think he should be the starter against Middle Tennessee State on Sept. 2. Of course, he won't be. And I'm sure Brewster will ride out Adam Weber as long as he can. I just hope Brewster is willing to let Weber cost him his job. In my mind, five wins saves Brewster his job. Four or fewer, and Minnesota is looking for a new coach.
