RCTC 141-pounder Lewis wins title

MOORHEAD — The Rochester Community and Technical College wrestling team landed three in the top six on Saturday in the Dragon Open, including 141-pounder Label Lewis with a first-place finish.

There were over 250 wrestling competing in the tournament, which included NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA schools.

Lewis beat several strong opponents en route to his title. That included two-time Minnesota state champions Taner Trembley and Coltan Laganiere.

Lewis downed Augsburg's Marcus Hamer 5-3 in the championship match.

Lewis beat South Dakota State's Laganiere by pin (2:37) in the quarterfinals, and St. Cloud State's Trembley 8-6 in the semifinals.

RCTC's Derek Scott was fourth at 141 pounds. Trembley beat Scott 3-1 in the third-place match.

At 157 pounds, RCTC's Austin Koski was sixth. Augustana's Mitchell Rechtzigel beat him by major decision (11-3) in the fifth-place match.
