ANOKA — Rochester Community and Technical College was sharp from the start on Friday afternoon.
The No. 3-ranked Yellowjackets men's basketball team surged to a 21-point halftime lead en route to a 90-75 victory against No. 12-ranked Vermilion in the Anoka-Ramsey Classic.
"It was a very good performance by the entire team," RCTC coach Brian LaPlante said.
RCTC (12-0) extended its lead to as many as 33 points in the second half. The Yellowjackets shot 49 percent from the floor and were nearly perfect from the free-throw line (18-for-19).
Joe Beck, a 6-foot-8 freshman center from Lake City, led the way with 23 points and 15 rebounds. Chaz Sharp, a 6-3 freshman guard from Randallstown, Md., added 17 points; and Stewartville native David Fritsch, a sophomore forward, had 12 points and five assists.

Vermilion is now 10-3 overall.
RCTC closes out its pre-Christmas schedule at 2 p.m. today against Bismarck (N.D.) State College at the Anoka Classic.
