RCTC nearly upsets state's top-ranked softball team

ROSEMOUNT — Rochester Community and Technical College had a lopsided win and nearly a wonderful upset in Friday's Crossover Tournament for Minnesota community college softball.

First game of the day in the Rosemount Dome was an 11-0 win over Northland. Tailor Raymond drove in five runs with a single, double and homer and pitched a no-hitter, striking out nine and walking three in seven innings.

Ashley Bunting was 4-for-4 with a triple, Kim Meyerhofer was 3-for-4 with a triple and Shelby Davis was 3-for-4 with a double and a homer.

In the second game, RCTC scored a run in the third on a triple by Meyerhofer and led the state's No. 1-ranked team, Rainy River, 1-0 going into the seventh, only to lose 2-1.

Bunting, Raymond and Meyerhofer had hits for RCTC. Megan Scheid allowed eight hits and a walk, striking out one in pitching the distance.

RCTC (3-7) returns to the tournament, which matches Southern Division teams with Northern Division teams, on Sunday when it plays Itasca and Mesabi.
