RCTC rolls to MCAC wrestling title

WILLMAR — The Rochester Community and Technical College wrestling team had high hopes for the Minnesota College Athletic Conference championships on Saturday. And the Yellowjackets didn't disappoint.

RCTC rolled to the MCAC team title, crowning six individual champions along the way. The Yellowjackets scored 108.5 team points, while Ridgewater College placed second at 99.5 and Itasca Community College third at 31.

The Yellowjackets won titles at six of the tournament's 10 weights.

Holdingford, Minn., native Zach Scott started things off right for the Yellowjackets, winning the title at 141 pounds.

Byron's Brett Bradford scored the title at 157, while former FCLMC standout Connor Hanson earned championship honors at 165.

Wisconsin natives Dustin Lee (184) and Chase Nottestad (heavyweight) also took individual titles, while Ryan Jones of St. Michael also was a champion at 197.

It was RCTC's fourth consecutive MCAC title.

Hanson also was unanimously selected as the MCAC Wrestler of the Year. He is currently 28-10 and plans to continue his wrestling career at a four-year school next season.

RCTC will return to Willmar on Thursday to battle Ridgewater in a dual meet. The winner will be crowned the conference's dual team champion. RCTC currently is unbeaten in MCAC dual meets.
