INTERNATIONAL FALLS — Rochester Community and Technical College got a serious test from Rainy River Community College, but passed it in men's basketball Friday.
RCTC won 89-74. The Yellowjackets are 9-1 and ranked eight in the NJCAA Division III.
"Rainy River is pretty good and that's a hard place to play," RCTC coach Brian LaPlante said. "We glad to get out of there with a win. Offensively, we executed better than we have recently."
Forward Lavar McCullough led the Yellowjackets with 23 points. Rob Claypool had 21 points, Keiron Sauer 13 and Justyn Galloway 11.
RCTC trailed early in the first half, but tied the score with 10 minutes left in the frame. The Yellowjackets then pushed their lead to 12 points and led 47-37 at halftime.

RCTC ended the game by going on a 9-0 scoring run.
RCTC plays at 3 p.m. at Hibbing.
