MINNEAPOLIS — Red Wing senior Abbey Schnaith reached the championship finals in two events at the Class A girls state swimming and diving championships Saturday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
She placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (53.09) and sixth in the 100 backstroke (59.61), in both cases improving her position from the prelims.
Schnaith set a school record in the backstroke of 59.56 seconds in the Friday preliminaries, the eighth-best time of the day, and her 53.31 in the freestyle was sixth.
Red Wing's 200 medley relay team of Schnaith, Ashley Thompson, Ingrid Olson and Hannah Walch was 17th in Friday's prelims, just missing advancing to Saturday's consolation finals.
Helen Heimark of Austin was 15th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.33.
