FARIBAULT — The Rochester Redhawks played one excellent game and one poor one Friday in American Legion First District baseball.
The Redhawks led off with a 7-2 win over Faribault. They totaled 15 hits, with Jay Alston collecting three of them, including a double. Michael Michalak was 2-for-2 with a double, a triple and three RBIs, and Alec Riles was 3-for-3.
Alston was the winning pitcher. He went the distance and allowed just one earned run.
"We hit the ball hard and played flawless defense," Redhawks coach Tom Senne said.
Game 2 of the doubleheader was a different story. Faribault beat the Redhawks 7-2, taking advantage of three Rochester errors and 10 hits.

It was a big game for the Redhawks' Brad Mathiowetz, however. He went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run.
Still, it was a doubleheader that disappointed Redhawks coach Tom Senne.
"We shoot ourselves in the foot and it's frustrating," Senne said.
The Redhawks are 6-3 in the First District, 8-5 overall. They play at 2:30 next Friday at Dale Massey Field.
