Last year's postseason result:Placed second at the Section 1AAA meet.

Who's gone:Nobody, all return.

Top returners:C.J. Fritcher (76.0 stroke average, state qualifier, all-conference), Cordie Walker (80.4, state qualifier, all-conference) and Zach Orbeck (81.2, all-conference).

Other returning letterwinners:Kris Sveum (83.9), Zenny Kuzyk (84.9), Michael Klampe (85.58), Paul Aronhalt (85.58), Ramin Sameni (85.67) and Peter Moe (87.45).

Newcomers expected to make an impact:Chris Captain (freshman had varsity experience at John Marshall last season).

Where they fit in conference/section races:At the top. Should be contenders for both Big Nine title and Section 1AAA crown.

Team strengths/weaknesses:Experience is on Century's side. Great depth and competition for all varsity spots. No weaknesses listed.

Coach Wells' thoughts:"I’m excited about the upcoming season because we have some talented, experienced golfers who are very nice people. Cordie, Zach, Kris and Ramin have all been playing for five or six years, which should help our consistency and efficiency throughout the season. C.J. is getting bigger and stronger, which should make him quite a threat this season. We also have several juniors and sophomores fighting for the remaining varsity spots. Competition and depth are so important in successful high school golf programs."

GIRLS

CENTURY

Coach:Jeff Swegarden, first season.

Assistants:None.

Last year's team stroke average:424.

Last year's postseason result:In ninth place after first day of Section 1AAA tournament (did not advance).

Who's gone:Brittany Wilson, Lauren Grove and Ali Behrens.

Top returners:Taylor Wells (conference champion, state qualifier, finished 47th overall last season).

Other returning letterwinners:Josie Peterson, Jessie Neher and Maegan Graves.

Newcomers expected to make an impact:Six new golfers out for the team this season. All showing promise and potential but have limited experience.

Where they fit in conference/section races:Top half.

Team strengths/weaknesses:Returners have experience. But most of team does not and team lacks depth.

Coach Swegarden's thoughts:"I am seeing wonderful leadership out of the returning letterwinners. They have helped me and have helped their peers these first couple of weeks. I am hoping that Taylor Wells has another good year in both the Big Nine and at sections. She had the best scoring average in the Big Nine and won the conference meet last year. Taylor is very dedicated to the game and committed to continually improving. She is not only an excellent golfer, but an exceptional role model in all aspects of her life. ... The returning letterwinners have so far been committed to stepping up their games to the next level and could help us significantly, especially if they continue being dedicated to the game and enthusiastic about the whole experience. The new players on the team have been working beyond my expectations. In two short weeks, they have improved significantly and show a genuine appreciation for the game. I am fortunate to be working with girls who have a wonderful attitude toward working hard and improving."

Where they fit in conference/section races:Top half of conference and section.

Team strengths/weaknesses:Team is young, with no seniors. Lack experience.

Coach Myhro's thoughts:"I am excited about the season. We have a large group again this season with 31 girls on the team, spread pretty evenly from seventh grade to 11th grade. I know a number of the girls really committed to playing lots of golf last summer. That's the key to making improvements for the next season. We have a great practice facility at Eastwood Golf Course, and lots of supportive parents. The girls have set high goals as a team and they are willing to work hard to achieve those goals."

JOHN MARSHALL

Coach:Andy Ollenburg, fourth season.

Assistants:None.

Last year's team stroke average:395.

Last year's postseason result:Tied for eighth place (lost tiebreaker and did not advance to second day) in Section 1AAA.

Who's gone:Paige Cook.

Top returners:Katie Johnson (100) and Brianna Axtell (104).

Other returning letterwinners:Katie Ollenburg (118) and Alli Axtell (123).

Newcomers expected to make an impact:None listed.

Where they fit in conference/section races:Competing for spot in middle of conference and section.

Team strengths/weaknesses:Returning four players with varsity experience. Rest of team lacks experience.

Coach Ollenburg's thoughts:"This will be a building year for the Rockets. We have many unknowns at this point since our varsity will have had limited experience in most of the positions and there are no seniors on the team. We will probably see a few girls play in the two open positions on the varsity to give more girls varsity experience. Our goal will be to get our average below 400 again this year. We are looking forward to hosting the All-City Invite against Mayo, Century and Lourdes at Northern Hills on May 9th. The Big Nine will probably see a new champion this season as Faribault graduated five of their six varsity golfers from last season. The Big Nine tournament will be played at Northern Hills this year on May 23."
