Rochester Water Show Team is 8th in national event

TOMAHAWK, Wis. — The Rochester Water Show Team placed eighth out of 15 teams in Division II in the 11th annual Indmar Marine Engines Ski National Championships earlier this month.

The team's Ballet Line took second place. The group consisted of Sarah Chapman, Ashley Derynck, Rylee Franko, Moriah Keehn, Sarah Keehn, Shannon Larsen, Carmen Mergen, Taylor Nelson, Alisha Peters, Sara Spavin, Jessica Trotman and Kindra Walstad. The Ballet Line was first place in the regional meet a week earlier in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

In competitive show skiing, each club has one hour to present a theatrical performance on water skis. Judges score the acts by awarding points based on difficulty, flow and spectator appeal.  Elaborate costumes and staging intermix with music and fast action on the water as an announcer leads the audience through the show.

We also had several athletes competing individually in swivel, doubles, and jumping acts.

In Swivel, Rochester's Kindra Walstad took second and Ashley Derynck third.
