Regardless of which teams were seeded higher in the upcoming subsection volleyball tournaments one thing is certain: Some excellent area teams won't be going to state again.
The Section One, Class A tournament is loaded with three teams that are ranked in the top 10 in Class AA, and the 1AA tournament has one ranked team and three that received votes in the last coaches' poll.
The 1A East subsection tournament is home to top seed and No. 3-ranked Wabasha-Kellogg (26-1) and No. 9 Mabel-Canton (31-0), while the top seed in the West is No. 2-ranked Faribault Bethlethem Academy (18-4).
In the Section 1AA tournament, the West subsection includes No. 8 ranked Stewartville (19-3) as the top seed along with Byron (21-6) and Kasson-Mantorville (22-5), which received votes in the last poll. Those teams finished in a three-way tie for the HVL Conference title.
The top seed in 1AA East is Caledonia (21-7), which also received votes, followed by No. 2 Chatfield (15-7) which is the only other team with a winning record.
