There’s a sports facility that is getting a facelift this year in Rochester.
No, I’m not talking about the National Volleyball Center. I’m talking about the McQuillan Softball Complex.
The Rochester Softball Association (RSA) is overseeing the construction of a new pavilion/field supervisor building at McQuillan. This new facility will feature a 40 foot by 80 foot covered, open air pavilion that can be utilized by not only players and fans who attend the park for league games or tournaments but also by community members who enjoy running, walking or biking on the path system that runs throughout southeast Rochester.
In addition to the public pavilion, the facility will also contain an umpire and staff room that will serve as the headquarters for league and tournament operations of all the adult and youth softball that takes place at McQuillan each year. This structure will replace the old supervisor shack in the middle of the complex.
Construction on this new facility has already begun and should be completed by May. Over 200 softball teams will enjoy this addition on Rochester adult softball league nights this summer.

McQuillan will also host several tournaments this year including the Early Bird Adult Tournament, MSF Girls Fastpitch State Tournament, NJCAA Women’s Fastpitch Division III National Championship, ASA Men’s C Northern Nationals and others. "This new building will be the new hub of the complex. Players and fans will really enjoy the pavilion and the new headquarters room will be a great addition for league and tournament operations" stated Becky Macken, RSA President.
Rochester Softball Association serves as the voice of the Rochester softball players for league operations and venue development. The RSA Board is composed of softball players, umpires and enthusiasts. They work directly with the Rochester Park & Rec. Department on league and facility issues throughout the year. They also oversee the state and national Amateur Softball Association (ASA) sanctioning for all the Rochester teams.
Previous projects that RSA has completed at McQuillan include: the concessions stand, dugouts, outfield fence windscreens, cement bleacher pads and others. For more information on RSA and photos of the McQuillan building visit their website, www.rsasoftball.com.
