Softball: Mankato West too much for John Marshall

MANKATO — Bre Black threw a four-hit shutout and Mankato West collected 14 hits in topping John Marshall 5-0 in Big Nine Conference softball on Tuesday.

JM had just five base runners in the loss. Black struck out 10 and did not issue a walk. She was also 2-for-4 and drove in a run at the plate.

Hannah Hastings was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs for West.

Abby Gee was 2-for-3 with a double for JM. Katie Boldt, who pitched a complete game, suffered the loss for the Rockets.

"(We're) not playing very good softball right now, and that isn't going to get the job done against good teams,"JM coach Thang Nguyen said. "We need some girls to step up over the next week."
