AUSTIN — Mayo belted three home runs en route to a 15-1 victory over Austin in five innings at the
Big Nine Conference Softball Tournament on Friday.
Each of the 10 Big Nine teams played one game at the tournament, which was held at Todd Park in Austin.
In a matchup of fourth-seeded teams from each side of the conference brackets, the Spartans completely overwhelmed the Packers by a 14-4 margin in total hits.
Mayo led 3-0 before scoring eight times in the third inning. Makinzee Kazeck hit a two-run homer to start the big rally for the Spartans.

Melissa Conger hit a two-run shot and Trista Nierman added a solo home run in a four-run fourth inning for Mayo.
Nierman was 3-for-3 with three RBIs while Kazeck and Virginia Brust both finished 3-for-4. Kazeck added a double to go with her homer and drove in three runs. Brust hit a double, triple and drove in two runs.
