ALBERT LEA — Clint Thome's first win as coach of the Mayo softball team proved to be an easy one as the Spartans rolled to a 27-0 win over Albert Lea in five innings in Big Nine Conference play Thursday.
"Their pitching threw a decent speed, but their defense wasn't very good," Thome said." She gave us a good look at the ball. And we took advantage of our base running."
Jacqueline Cliby threw a three-hit shutout and went 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs for Mayo. Laura Henderson had a big day at the plate for Mayo as she was a perfect 5-for-5 with six RBIs. Catcher Kelli Anderson was 3-for-5 with five RBIs.
Mayo (1-1, 1-1 Big Nine) plays at Century on Tuesday.
