RED WING — Rochester John Marshall scored in bunches in the second game of a doubleheader and gained a split with Red Wing in Big Nine Conference softball action Saturday.
John Marshall erupted for six runs in the fifth inning and eight more in the seventh and won 19-3 in the second game. Red Wing a much closer first game, 4-3.
"Good bounce back game, as the girls picked themselves up and were aggressive at the plate," said JM head coach Thang Nguyen. "We put the ball in play and were able to build a good early lead."
In the second game, the Rockets got 14 hits and benefited from eight Red Wing errors. JM had seven errors and both teams left double digit players on base in what Nguyen called a "sloppy game".
Addie Black went 3-for-4 and Taryn Adams drove in three runs for JM. Adams also got the win, throwing five innings and allowing two runs.

JM struggled to get any clutch hits in the first game, stranding nine base runners. Red Wing scored all of its runs in the third, loading the bases on a walk, error and single before scoring four runs without any more hits, on a hit batter and three more walks.
"Our lack of consistency in all areas can be frustrating, but it is part of the growing process for a young team," Nguyen added.
JM (3-4 overall, 2-4 in Big Nine) plays at Mankato West on Tuesday.
