Mankato West 3, John Marshall 2

MANKATO -- Lauryn Douglas shut John Marshall down for six innings as Mankato West held on to defeat the Rockets 3-2 in Big Nine Conference softball.

Carlee Emery hit a two-run single as West scored the first three runs of the game in the fifth inning. JM had two errors and the Scarlets had three singles in the inning.

JM loaded the bases and scored twice in the seventh before Douglas retired the side to end the game. Claire Evans drove in a run for the Rockets in the seventh.

Abby Miles suffered the loss for JM. She allowed five hits and just one earned run over six innings.

"Abby really pitched well against a West team that has solid hitters top to bottom," JM coach Thang Nguyen said. "We made a couple of mistakes and they capitalized. I continue to like our team's fight, they never give up and made things interesting right to the last out."

JM makes a return trip to Mankato next Tuesday to take on East.

Owatonna sweeps Mayo in doubleheader tilt

Owatonna scored four runs in the seventh inning to stun Mayo 8-7 in the first game of a doubleheader. Gabriella Castro went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Alexa Carlstrom doubled and drove in a run. Tiegan Mancuso had a triple and two RBIs.

Raiven Heise had two hits in the second game, but Owatonna ran away with a 9-5 win.

Northfield runs away from Century in doubleheader sweep
