Stewartville wins HVL championship

GOODUE — Stewartville kept up its terrific season on Saturday night, using another balanced effort to down Goodhue 65-60 in the Hiawatha Valley League boys basketball championship.

The Tigers, the HVL Gold Division champions, had four players hit double-figures against Goodhue, which won the HVL Blue Division. Sophomore center Will Gisler led the way with 17 points. Brandon Larsen added 15, Trevor Dale 12 and Gabe Langseth 10.

The win moved the Tigers to 20-4 overall. Goodhue, which has lost its last three games, is now 20-7.

The Wildcats got another strong game from 6-foot-4 guard Ashton Erie, with 25 points. Brian Strauss added 13.

Gisler hit three three-pointers against Goodhue.

Stewartville is the No. 1 seed in the Section 1AA West tournament which begins this week. Goodhue is the No. 1 seed out of Section 1A West. Both teams play their first playoff game on Thursday.
