Section 1AA qualifiers: In singles, Rochester Century senior Josh Christensen and Rochester Mayo seventh-grader Tej Bhagra have made it. Christensen, 21-1, beat Bhagra 6-1, 6-1 in the section final. Both players are unseeded and unranked. Christensen reached the state tournament in doubles as a sophomore, along with Alec Sargent. They were eliminated in the quarterfinals. There was no season last year due to the pandemic.

In doubles, Mayo senior Ojas Bhagra and junior Spencer Busch have qualified and drawn the No. 3 seed. Century senior Sargent and junior Henry Kruse have also qualified and are not seeded. Ojas Bhagra and Busch beat Sargent/Kruse 6-1, 6-3 in the section final.

The favorites: Mounds View junior Bjorn Swenson is the clear favorite in singles. He is 18-0, seeded and ranked No. 1, and is among the top young players in the country. The No. 2 seed is Edina’s Matthew Fullerton, who is ranked second. The sophomore is a perfect 21-0.

In doubles, the top seed is Edina junior Otto Schreiner and senior Luke Westholder. They were a combined 46-4 this season in singles. Schreiner is ranked seventh in singles. Seeded second is Mounds View junior Christo Alex and eighth-grader Emmanuel Alex. They’ve combined for just three singles losses this season.

Thursday’s action: First-round play in singles begins at 8 a.m., with quarterfinals at noon. Doubles begins at 10 a.m. with quarterfinals at 5 p.m. All of it is at Prior Lake High School.

Friday’s action: Semifinals are at 8 a.m., finals and third place at 11:30 a.m. for singles and doubles. All of it is at Prior Lake High School.
