MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Twins plan to skip right-hander Kevin Slowey's next start because of soreness in his elbow.
Slowey's bullpen session was canceled Sunday. His next turn to pitch was going to be Wednesday, but the Twins will probably have to bring up a temporary replacement from the minors. Left-hander Glen Perkins is a possibility. Left-hander Francisco Liriano and right-hander Carl Pavano each requested an extra day to rest their arms this week, taking advantage of the day off Monday.
The Twins start a three-game series in Chicago against the rival White Sox on today, with first place in the AL Central on the line. Right-hander Scott Baker is scheduled to pitch today, and Liriano is up Thursday.
The White Sox will start Freddie Garcia (10-4, 4.54 ERA) tonight, John Danks (11-8, 3.30) Wednesday, and Gavin Floyd (8-8, 3.49) Thursday.
