Thoughts on Lloyd, Sherels
Vikings coaches were asked during press conferences following practices on Saturday and Sunday to comment on former Rochester John Marshall standout Marcus Sherels and former RCTC All-America kicker Rhys Lloyd. Both players are in camp with the Vikings. Here is what the coaches had to say:
• Head coach Brad Childress, on Lloyd:
"I think we will see when we start to kick the ball in the pre-season and then see what kind of weapon we think he is. He’s (Lloyd) in there with Pat Williams in working on his girlish figure. He came back with nice numbers in reduction. So I would say that he and Pat are probably a toss-up for who did what with their body in the off-season. But we will see about the kicking part."
• Special teams coach Brian Murphy, on Sherels:

"Right now he is working primarily as a returner. He will be involved on kickoff. And if he not the punt returner, he will be in the "vice." He will be one of the edge defenders/blockers, and also as a gunner on front. There are a bunch of different spots for him. But right now I would like to see what he can do as a returner. I know he handles the ball well, he’s sudden. So we will see how that shakes out."
