FARIBAULT — Rochester Century fought for its survival but came up agonizingly short in a 3-2 loss on the road to Faribault Friday in a Section One, Class AAA volleyball match.
Century came from behind to win the fourth game 26-24, and then the fifth game was back-and-forth to the end when Faribault pulled out a 15-13 win.
Century was the No. 6 seed in the tournament and finished with a 20-8 record. Faribault, the No. 3 seed, takes a 20-9 mark into the semfinal round at No. 1 seed Mayo on Thursday.
"The girls played a heck of a match and it just didn't fall in our favor," Century head coach Abby Barrone said.
Century's leaders were Morgan Hazelton with 18 kills, Hannah Weidman with 23 digs and Karin Canakes with 13 blocks. Sydney Kruisselbrink had 37 assists.

Century had five seniors; Canakes, Hazelton, Jenasha Jamison, Kelsie Laughlin and Amanda DuBall.
"We had a great group of seniors who lead the way all season and we could not be more proud of how they all played against Faribault," Barrone said. "All of them will be missed greatly next year and there will be some big shoes to fill by our underclassman coming up."
