Century 3, John Marshall 1

Century pulled out a wild 3-1 win over John Marshall in Big Nine Conference play that feature two sets that went to extended play.

Century held on to defeat the Rockets 25-19, 30-32, 25-18, 27-25.

"I'm proud of how our girls finished the night," Century coach Nikki Guillaume said.

The Rockets had to deal with some injuries and sickness.

"The girls played great tonight," JM coach Jessica Stellmaker said. "Everyone played their roles well."

Paige Decker had a huge night at the net for Century with 23 kills while Megan Lund had 47 set assists.

"Decker had a great night with 23 kills and really helped us pull through in the close sets," Guillaume said. "We still struggled with too many errors and their blocks had us adjusting our hitter coverage."

Lilly Meister led the Rockets with 20 kills, and she had four blocks. Tiana Stevens dished out 30 set assists. Haley Glandon had eight kills, Laynie Meister collected five blocks and And Kaelyn Johnson had 19 digs.

"The girls are improving and getting stronger. It was a fun match tonight," Stellmakers said.

Century is now 17-5 overall and 7-2 in Big Nine. JM drops to 9-12, 2-7 in league play.

Mayo 3, Northfield 2

Mayo overcame a 2-1 set deficit to pull out a narrow and hard-fourth 25-22, 12-25, 17-25, 26-24, 17-15 victory over Northfield to remain unbeaten in Big Nine Conference play.

Mayo is now 15-5 overall and, 9-0 in conference play.

"Wow it was a night of great volleyball," Mayo coach Deb Frederick said. "The match was a battle from start to finish. We played tentative in sets two and three and kept making too many errors. We can’t do that against Northfield they have too many weapons."

The Spartans gain some momentum in the fourth set and won the final two sets in narrow fashion.

Madison Meyer had 18 kills for Mayo while Hannah Hanson collected 15 kills and 24 assists and Jadyn Lester had six kills and 24 set assists.

"In set four the feeling changed and I saw something in my team that hasn’t been there before," Fredericks said. "Their posture and mentality changed. It’s that switch as coaches you wait for. I am proud of them for believing in themselves."

Vivica Bretton had seven kills for Lourdes and Ashley Flores tallied 17 set assists.

Lourdes falls to 2-17 overall, 0-9 in the HVL.
