Austin High graduate Catherine Wagneris a member of the women's golf team at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Wagner is a junior for the Blugolds. UW-Eau Claire opened its spring season over the weekend at the Illinois Wesleyan University "Spring Fling." The two-day event was played at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill. The Blugolds had a solid showing, placing third overall. They carded rounds of 321 and 334 for a two-day total of 655. DePauw University won the tournament with a score of 634, Wagner also started the season off with a solid effort. She carded 80 during the opening round and followed that up with an 83 for a two-round total of 163. Wagner's total was good for a 13th-place tie in the 88-player field. UW-Eau Claire returns to action Saturday and Sunday at the Wartburg Spring Invitational at Centennial Oaks Golf Course in Waverly, Iowa.
• Pacelli graduate Colin Sheehanis a member of the men's track and field team at St. Mary's University in Winona. Sheehan is a junior for the Cardinals, and he specializes in distance running. The Cardinals were in action last weekend at the annual Norse Relays in Decorah, Iowa. Sheehan was a member of the 4x800 relay team that placed fourth overall. That squad turned in a time of 8:14.37. As a team, St. Mary's finished fourth among five teams. On April 4, Sheehan and the Cardinals were at the Loras College Midweek Meet in Dubuque, Iowa. Sheehan placed 12th overall in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:30.88. The Cardinals return to action Friday at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Phil Esten Challenge.
• Blooming Prairie graduate Brendan McCabeis a member of the baseball team at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. McCabe is listed as a senior catcher for the Mustangs. He's having a great final season for Morningside, which also is having a good season as a team. The Mustangs recently had a nine-game winning streak snapped with a pair of losses Sunday against Doane College in Nebraska. Doane won the opener 3-2 and followed that with a 5-4 win in eight innings. In Game 1, McCabe came off the bench as a pinch hitter and he drew a walk in his only plate appearance. In the second game, McCabe started at catcher and drew a walk in three plate appearances. The losses dropped Morningside to 30-14 overall. McCabe has started 34 games this season and played in 37 total games. He's hitting .327 with 10 runs scored, seven doubles, 30 RBIs and four stolen bases. McCabe leads the team with four home runs. The Mustangs return to action Saturday with a doubleheader at Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln, Neb.
• Austin High graduate Drew Osieris a member of the men's golf team at Central College in Pella, Iowa. Osier is a junior for the Dutch. Central recently pulled away in the second round of its home invitational to take the team title in the 13-squad event. Central carded rounds of 309 and 300 for at two-day total of 609. The Dutch won the invite by 16 shots over the University of Dubuque. Osier played on Central's second team, Central White. That squad finished in the middle of the pack at seventh. White finished with rounds of 326 and 319, for a two-day total of 645. Osier turned in efforts of 83 and 79, for a two-round total of 162. That put him in a tie for 29th place overall. Central has another big invitational this weekend. The Dutch will be at the annual Buena Vista Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Lake Creek Country Club in Storm Lake, Iowa.
