Women's basketball: Yellowjackets ride strong defense to win

Defense keyed the Rochester Community and Technical College women's basketball team for the second straight night.

The Yellowjackets rode it to a 69-47 win over Mesabi Range on Saturday at UCR Regional Sports Center.

It was the second straight night that RCTC held its opponent under 50 points. Both were Yellowjackets wins, their first two of the year (2-5 overall).

RCTC led 43-18 at halftime.

"Defensively we forced 25 turnovers for the game, and we forced three shot-clock violations," RCTC coach Steve Hucke said. "Our players stepped up to the plate and did a great job with that."

Offensively, RCTC was led by Victoria Asplund and Nathalie Ratliff, each with 14 points. Ratliff also had eight rebounds and four assists.

Reed Klunder had 10 points, Johanna Bungum nine points and six rebounds, and Jessica Foster five points and six assists.

RCTC outscored Mesabi 29-9 off the bench.
