Allen Joseph Wing, 75, of Rochester, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018, at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield.

Allen was born Nov. 23, 1942, in Thermopolis, Wyo., to Joseph and Pearl (Gooch) Wing. Allen left Thermopolis, Wyo., with his parents in 1958 and moved to Newcastle, Wyo., where he graduated from Newcastle High School in 1960.

On Aug. 19, 1961, he married Betty Georgetta Rawhouser in Newcastle, Wyo. He worked various jobs before attending Colorado State University in 1962. Allen graduated from Colorado State University in 1967, with a BS degree in Industrial Construction Management and a Minor in Civil Engineering. The same year (1967), he became employed with IBM as an Industrial Engineer, later moving up to Procurement Management, and after 30 years at IBM, Allen retired in 1997.

Allen was very active in coaching youth baseball and football. He was a former trustee and one time treasurer during his membership in the Elks Lodge 1091 in Rochester.

On days off he enjoyed golfing, boating, camping and relaxing at his and Betty’s cottage in Maple Springs, Minn. He loved to tinker and repair things, was quite the woodworker, building an elaborate entertainment center and a kitchen breakfast bar, which has and still is being enjoyed by his surviving family.

Allen is survived by his wife, Betty (Rawhouser) Wing of Rochester; his children, Todd (Brenda) Wing of Rochester, Troy Wing of La Crosse, Wis., and Missey Wing (Monte Gunderson) of Rochester; his sister, Joliene Olson of Winona; eight grandchildren, Justin Phelps, Tyler Wing, Kaitlynn Wing, Samuel Wing, Caleb Wing, Breanna Wing, Mason Gunderson, and Macey Gunderson; and one great-grandchild, Paisley Phelps.

Allen is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Charlotte Wentworth and Pauline Hurd.

The funeral service celebrating Allen’s life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Rochester Chapel, with the Rev. Lester Horntvedt officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.
